Operation Kitty Rescue - How you can help

Can you help by adopting or fostering one of the 20 cats?  Please email me at cuddleton@optiic.com if you can.  SAFE Bunbury would also love donations.  I will post the account info soon so you can help financially as many of the cats require vet care.

Operation Kitty Rescue - Shelter for the boys

The two boys are going in our side run.  It is netting and was only meant to be for playtime not as a permanant cat home.  So we needed a shelter for them.  While I collected the cats Damien put together a shelter made from some spare sheets of roofing that we had.

The boys look on in the carriers.

It's taking shape.  Not long now Creamy and Blackie (yes I called the black bicolour blackie, creative or what!!  I love it).

The finished shelter.

Two big plastic boxes with holes in the side as beds and a litter tray and water.  I put mats down after this photo.  Rough and ready but better than what they had been kept in.  They have lots of space to run and play.

Operation Kitty Rescue - Creamy in the car

This is one of the boys.  I have called him Creamy.  He is sooooooo adorable!!!!  Too pretty to be a boy but he definately has some big "bits" for the vet to attend to.  I think he is about nine months to a year old.

And yes, I have a signed statement as to who dumped the cats and how many plus the condition of them.  I dont want to see these people breeding more cats and giving the rest of us a bad name any further.

Operation Kitty Rescue - The girls settle in

This is the most friendly kitty.  She is a blue tabby tortie and white British Shorthair.  We think she is desexed.  We gave her a cute name but I have forgotton it!!  She would make a really great pet as she is really affectionate.  She just needs a safe home.

This kitty is called Sugar.  She is a young girl and is a bit scared but friendly when you pat her so once she settles she will be a great potential pet.  She is skinny and will need a bit of TLC.  Once she is desexed she will blossom.

And this is scared little Sweetie Pie.  She is small and soooo cute.  I think she is quite young but I am not sure.  She needs some time to shine.  I think her poor diet and possibly sore mouth have made her an unhappy girl.  She will come good.  I just know it.

Oh and this is how comfortable they are now they have some space.

Operation Kitty Rescue - Meet the girls

So the cats dont have names.  They were called the cats in pen eight and the cats in pen ten etc etc.  That is soooooo sad.  So Carole and I named them.  Here are the girls about to go into a safe and spacious pen at Carole's.

The black and white kitty is called Sweetie Pie. She was very dirty in her face but once we washed it she looked a lot better. She is scared but she will come good.

Operation Kitty Rescue - The Handover

At the arranged meeting point (sounds like secret agent stuff LOL) I got the boxes out ready to pop the kitties in.

I ended up taking five as they were bicolours and I think we have a better chance of rehoming them than the other colours.  The person who dumped these cats and made them someone elses problem clearly picked the colours they could not sell as there was no blues and a lot of brown tabbies.  They were covered in poop, had crusty eyes and had been fed a diet of "a little bit of mince and white boiled rice".  They were all entire except one girl who was their "house cat".  She was discarded too.

And why did they all have to go?  They just didnt want them.  I have since been told they have some new Norwegian Forest Cats coming and needed the space.  So they dumped them on Raquel who was expecting five cats not twenty.  They had to go in a small run and were fighting each other as they were so crowded.

23 British Shorthairs & Scottish Folds Need Urgent Homes

A few days ago one of my friends contacted me to say a lady had called her as she had 23 British Shorthairs and Scottish Folds dumped on her by a breeder.  She is a rescuer for SAFE who do a great job helping animals find new homes here in Western Australia.  I spent the day making calls till I tracked her down as I wanted to help.  I never do rescue as it is too risky to the health of my cats but the rescuer had only two large rabbit runs for 20+ cats and she needed urgent help.

So I agreed to take some and get them new homes plus put the word out to see if we could get others to do the same.  My dear friend Carole agreed to take some too so operation kitty rescue was go-go-go!

I packed up the 4WD with carriers, towels and food & litter to give to Raquel who had the cats.  She lives in Bunbury which is several hours out of Perth but was coming up to collect some rescue rabbits.

Just as well we have a big car!  I was originally collecting four cats, two for me and two for Carole.  So I took four boxes.  The poor cats arrived at Raquel's stuffed three to a box so I didnt want to stress them anymore.

But there was room for a gift for Raquel for being so sweet to help the cats.
